Dirty Girl Farm Tour & Manresa Beach Trip
Jesse Schlesinger organized a beautiful July 4th getaway for Triple Base and friends at the Dirty Girl Farm in Santa Cruz. We foraged for veggies, grilled em up and picked fresh strawberries in the morning for breakfast. Then we were off to Manresa Beach for some more picnicing and sunning! Thanks for an amazing trip Jesse...

2 week sublet needed for 2(or more) German Artists: May 25-June 18
Friends,
As many of you know, I'm curating an exhibition with and about an artist collective called The Institute for Social Research. The ISR was the result of a collaboration between CCA and an art school in Germany that allowed students from both institutions to live and work together in San Francisco last semester. The ISR is an international group, most of whom have returned to Stuttgart, Germany but have recently been awarded a grant for travel. They'll return to the Bay Area this summer to help with the show's installation and to reunite with their local counterparts. A press release is attached that further describes the group but let me assure you that the exhibition is going to be incredibly dynamic now that the ISR have secured funding to get here for the show!
I'm writing to you because I'm invested in finding housing for these students during their time in the Bay Area. There will be eight students arriving on May 25 and staying through June 18th. They will be working at the Richmond Art Center nearly everyday during that time, helping to install our exhibition. The group was born out of a communal living situation and clearly want to live together during their time here. They are well accustomed to sleeping on floors, in tents, wherever they can. The group is in their late twenties and thirties and is extremely sweet, respectful, hard-working and gracious.
>
> What is needed:
> - space for eight people to sleep
> - access to public transportation
> - use of a bathroom and kitchen
> - no need to provide bedding or food -- just sleep space
>
> The benefits of housing these students include:
> - free exhibition catalogs
> - a tax-deduction for the price you name
> - public acknowledgement of your gift in both exhibitions -- here and in Stuttgart
> - networking with some fantastic artists, being part of a very vibrant and fun project
> - $500 in rent/security deposit/cleaning fees
>
> Please let me know if you have any ideas about where these wonderful people might rest their weary heads after long days of brilliant creative production at the Richmond Art Center! The reward of working with these people is tremendous (I can verify first hand!) and their gratitude is bound to show up in the form of artworks, cooked meals, and more. I've attached some pictures of the group for your enjoyment.

Jay Nelson's treehouse was installed in a beautiful tree on Larry Rinder's Ukiah property with the help of some friends and a few trucks. We also flew kites, ate yummy food, sang songs around the campfire and soaked in the hottub. Livin' the Northern Cali dream...

silver dollars/pirate coins
I'm making a giant sculpture/pile of silver coins made out of aluminum foil and I'm looking for some friends to help me make them. It really just involves rolling up a ball of aluminum foil, stepping on it and then flattening out the sides, but its taking me longer than expected to get the size of the pile up there.

Center for Cultural Innovation
The Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI) was launched in 2001 to promote knowledge sharing, networking and financial independence for individual artists and creative entrepreneurs by providing business training, grants and loans, and incubating innovative projects that create new program knowledge, tools and practices for artists in the field.
In the spring of 2007, CCI opened an office in San Francisco, marking the transition from Los Angeles based programming to statewide services. CCI provides a range of programs designed to serve the needs of individual artists, including a statewide grants program called Investing in Artists. The next deadline is June 6, 2008 for artists seeking to acquire the equipment and tools that will sustain their long-term ability to make work. More information about CCI and the Investing in Artists program can be found at www.cciarts.org
